Review of Jotul F105 stove

Works well, beautiful little stove

Angus Robertson 2 years ago

We have the f105 with long legs in a large well insulated but north facing living room, with 3 outside walls, it heats it no problem.

I had originally intended to get a Morso 1442 and went to see one in the Burning Question in Perth. The Jotul f105 was sitting alongside it and I soon lost interest in the Morso. Not that there’s anything wrong with the Morso, I think they make great stoves, but the f105 stood out because of the design and the excellent quality of finish. It looks like a Minion.

It is a modern clean burn stove, which means it takes a little bit more skill in kindling, but I have been around stoves most of my life so it’s no problem. It is heavy despite its small size, which means it has more mass for retaining heat, which it does very well.

The fire is easy to control and doesn’t burn erratically unlike some modern clean burns.

With the large view of the fire it is a focal point and ideal for any living room. It won’t burn over night but then no other stoves do nowadays due to pollution laws. I recommend this of course.

I think for this size and quality of stove, the other contenders would be the fore mentioned Morso, the F100 (more traditional look) and the Jotul 602.

The firebox is large enough in terms of height and width.
