  I would be happy to recommend the Jacobus for those looking for a good value stove. It is maybe not the best looking stove on the market but actually it does what it "says on the tin' very well
  . It seems that this is an extremely popular stove in Holland - just go onto their website and see the number of reviews they get each week - It is steel stove with a cast iron top. This means that it heats up pretty quickly but doesn't retain the heat for as long as a full cast iron stove might. We bought the stove to heat a big area 150m3 - with vaulted ceilings. If this area had normal height ceiling and was all on the same level - I would estimate that the stove would do the job very well but our layout makes it hard for any stove. All last year from September - May I used the burner alot as I work at home - I spent around 650 quid on wood briquettes. (two tonnes) It took 3 attempts to get the right briquettes - light easily, burn cleanly, and leaving little ash. One thing I have learned is that the stove prefers to be heated more slowly. If heated too vigorously at the start it tends to tick and clunk - but if brought up to 300 degrees over 30 minutes or longer it seems to be a bit quieter - on cooling in the evening it does make a few "bongs' and 'clicks' (my only real complaint). Glass generally stays pretty clean - getting dirty around the edges only. The stove is extremely easy to operate with one lever - put it out fully on lighting the fire. When the fire has caught and going well - after 20 minutes - push it in until to the optimum level point. Looking at the technical specifications this stove easily meets the most stringent of environmental standards and is extremely efficient at around 79pc. You can expect to burn around 2kg of wood an hour - So typically It needs refilled after every 50 minutes. with 2 briquettes. I don't know how this compares with other stoves.I reckon last year it saved me around 300 Pounds on my heating bill - didn't save as much as I would have liked but It is a great feature and congregating point for the family. You can see it in action on youtube - just type in Jacobus stove. On the video I had commented that there was too much smoke - this was the fault of the briquette not the stove. If I had of had more money I may of bought a Jotul or Morso - but this stove is one of the few with a high capacity of around 7-9KW for fair price. Actually, I'm pretty happy with it and every stove likely has its foibles - I have written to customer support in Holland twice and within 24 hours they have given me a comprehensive response. The stove has a UK distributor. In the Netherlands the stove has a lifetime guarantee - which unfortunately doesn't extend to the UK.
