Review of Hunter Telford 5 Inset stove

Better than an open fire

Niall MacBeath 3 years ago

I have had the Telford 5 inset for 2 years and am satisfied with its performance. The stove is easy to light but seems to burn at a higher rate than friends'' stoves, even when damped down. It works effectively with both wood and anthracite ovoids. The latter keep hot for longer, but generate more ash and soot (only noted when sweeping the chimney). The heat output seems less than the open fire, but the absence of draughts makes the room warmer overall, uses less fuel and is much more controllable. A small free standing stove would probably have been more efficient, but the inset fits well, requires less space and was a simpler installation.

Construction and overall quality are very good.

Stove expert replied: Thank you Niall - sounds like a worthwhile upgrade.
