Review of Hunter Herald 80b boiler stove

My hunter 80B stove is leaking on the inside

Neil Walker 4 years ago

My hunter 80B wood burning stove is leaking on the inside round the rear outlet it is only 6 years old I tried to get in touch with the dealers but they've gone bust. Then got in touch with the manufacturer but and they not really interested so I have welded it up until I find another stove. You shouldn't have to be repairing your expensive stove after a few years. I am going to buy a stainless steel back boiler stove next. It will not be a hunter stove

Stove expert replied: Failures in boiler stoves can be due to a variety of things which may not be down to the stove, Installation, has this been carried out, as per the manufacturers instructions by a suitably qualified engineer? Has the system been dosed with a rust inhibitor? Is there cold water corrosion protection on the system? The flue draw does this match the requirements in the manual? The type of fuel used, wood needs to be dry and well seasoned with a moisture content of less than 20% or a smokeless fuel suitable for closed appliances. How the stove has been operated, has there been short periods of fast burning on a regular basis to maintain clear boiler sides and a clear flue system? Has the chimney / flue system been swept annually if not more often? What kW loading is the stove supplying - if oversized for the system it will not be working effectively or efficiently. If by the rear outlet you refer to the flue outlet - is this the option that has been used to flue the stove? If so can moisture get into the flue system that collects at this point? If there is an underlying contributing factor this should be identified and suitable measures taken to correct it before another boiler is installed, to prevent similar from occurring again. It is easy to say the stove is at fault but this may not always be the case. The issues outlined are just some and there will be more, a complete over view should be undertaken to check the boiler is the correct size for the system, the installation meets the manufacturers requirements etc before a replacement is installed.
