Review of Hunter Herald 80b boiler stove

works for me

P 11 years ago

We had this fitted as part of a re-fit inc solar water heating in 2011, we ( well the fitters) had a minor problem with the first one they sent, as it leaked. This was replaced in a couple of weeks, so not too much trouble as the room was still in bits. Since then it has been used over 2 winters without any real problems.

Heating a large 4 bed house with 14 radiators and hot water on wood alone means it eats its way through a forest very quickly, but on anthracite it will do the job no problem. I have the top vents open about half way and the glass only needs cleaning after 3 days of constant use.

The controls work well and its easy and clean using the riddling grate.

The only slight disappointment is that the upper set of grate bars has warped upwards, this does not cause any running problems and is probably due to me over heating it in the first year whist getting used to using it.

Overall we are pleaed with the stove, it does what it says on the tin and if your going to the trouble of fitting a complete system then this one works as its big enough to do the job.

Stove expert replied: Try leaving a small covering of ash on top of the grates to protect them and remove the ash from the ashpan at least twic a day. If ash builds up and touches the grates ate the bottom this can distort them and will shorten the life of them.
