Review of Hunter Herald 8 stove
12 years and still happy
Bought my Herald 8 in 2001 and its been great to date. Has a clip in boiler and provides space heating in the lounge, where the stove is situated, and heat to hot water and rads in bathroom, hall and kitchen. We do not have the bedrooms heated, and do not feel the need for this as downstairs heat from the stove keeps the bedrooms at acceptable level. So the Herald is our only source or heating/hot water.
The stove lights easily using a 1" square ish bit of firelighter with kindling gleaned from the bits left over on the drive after wood delivery. I originally used the stove with a multifuel grate, burning wood and solid fuel, but removed the grate and burn wood only on accumulated ash on the base of the stove. This needs emptying about once a week in the height of winter, removing a Roses Chocolates tin of ash. I have used other stoves at other locations, and they have all been different in their performance/operational needs/quirks. All I can say is that for me, the Hunter Herald 8 is the best I've used, and excellent value for money.- Be the first to comment
