Review of FDC 5kw
Good Little Stove
We had this fitted at the end of last winter and have used it for a couple of months. We were renovating our house and initially had an open fire, but noted that most of the heat was heading up the chimney. Our local shop recommended this stove and recommended a local fitter. It lights quickly and heats our smallish front room 36m3 easily. It needs dry wood (I presume all woodburners do). But we were supplied damp wood initially and I noted it did not get up to temp. I like the ease of lighting, the lovely big window to see the flames and that it does not eat the logs. An armful of 4-5 log pieces will last all evening. The airwash is good and if you use good dry wood it will not blacken. The handle can get warm, but not unacceptably hot. Adding additional logs is not an issue, although it came with some heat gloves that sit on the log pile, I have rarely used them. We had previously used a little Aga Wenlock in a house we rented. Perhaps it was badly set up, but lighting the FDC is much easier and gives out much more heat. I would recommend the FDC - it does the job, looks attractive in the fireplace, and was not too expensive.
Stove expert replied: Wood should have a moisture content of less that 20% otherwise problems with glass discolouration, heat output and flue deposit building up will occur. A moisture meter is recommended to prevent this.
