Review of Dunsley Highlander 7
Dunsley Highlander 7
I bought this in Jan'09. Overall it is ok and does the job, far better than our fire which was hopeless. It is in a room 17' by 19' with a 9ft ceiling and it gets up to 20 degrees of an evening ( my parents stove reaches 26/27 degrees)but slightly less when the wind blows. This is with the door of the room shut, I had hoped to leave it open and (slightly)heat the house but the difference is not noticeable. I should have bought a woodburner not a multifuel as I could do with the firebox being bigger. I clean the glass every 2 weeks or so but the airwash does work to be fair. I like the single door and the big piece of glass. One of the firebricks is cracked already but that should not be too much of a problem. It can be hard to light and I don't like the fact you cannot shut it down completely, the secondary airwash is designed to stay slightly open and I still get flames when it is shut - I don't want flames. It was sold to me as a 7kw, with wood it is only 5kw, a difference of almost 30%. I do feel slightly duped, there should be more explanation of maximum and nominal outputs. It take a while to heat up but it does hold its heat. We go to bed about 10.30pm and I fill it up at 8pm and don't touch it again. I did lots of research and still ended up with possibly the wrong stove, not a mistake but could have done better. Buying another one soon, I fancy the Stovax 11, a beast!
