Review of Dunsley Highlander 5 stove

Highlander 5

Derek Murray 13 years ago

I bought my Highlander 5 in January 2008 so almost 4 years ago now. As a first time stove owner I had the expectation that it would be a sort of lifetime purchase and my only problem with the stove has been the maintenance costs. Since new, I have had to buy 3 sets of upper grate bars, 3 new sealing ropes and am now going to have to spend over £50 for a new Top Baffle Plate. I would still recommend it however as a first class unit providing terrific heat (and we do live in the far North in a 300year old house) which is easy to control and easy to clean. I burn a mixture of wood and peat in my Highlander.\n\n

Stove expert replied: The upper grates may be failing if you over riddle the stove, try to leave a bed of ash to protect them and always empty the ash pan once you have riddles the stove. The baffle plate price is not too bad for a 5 year replacement cost but as with any stove their are maintenance to be factored into any purchase. Doing a good though by the sounds of the customer comments.
