Review of Dunsley Highlander 5 stove
So far unimpressed
We have the solo model and have been really unimpressed so far. It's been in for about 2 months now and I'm seriously thinking about taking it out and swapping with a burley. We only want to burn wood and love the style of this little burner - it looks and feels quality. After about a week of using it the black handle started rubbing off so had to contact Dunsley who supplied us with a new handle to give them credit and so far this handle is miles better. We have had the stove on for most nights so that we can get used to it for winter but heat output is poor. It heats the room ample but doesn't get boiling like next doors. In fact we keep the throw on us!! The logs don't want to light unless the door is open even though they have 19% moisture and even though the stove is far too hot to touch our living room is still cold. Wish I hadn't spent 700 on this and just bought a burley .
Stove expert replied: This is very strange on the one hand it sounds very much like an over-drawing flue where the heat that is generated is being sucked up the chimney and not allowing it to stay in the stove to enable it to radiate into the room and on the other hand you are saying the wood does not want to light unless the door is open. Are you leaving the door open to keep the fire lit? Have you ventilation in the room? Is the chimney lined? I would get the installation checked as it may not be the stove at fault but the installation.
