Review of Dunsley Highlander 5 stove
Fantastic little stove
Bought the Dunsley Highlander 5 to replace a very old mutli-fuel stove and couldn't believe how much technology has moved on in 25 years! The Dunsley is fiercely efficient and warms up our large lounge in minutes. Attractive, well-built and the two sliders make it easy to control and easy to see what setting you have it on. One firelighter and a bit of kindling is all it takes to get it going. It gets so hot and is so easy to light that we often let it go out half way through the evening and then relight it later if we need to (though there is so much residual heat in the casing that it keeps chucking out warmth long after its gone out!) Window stays clean as long as you burn it hot occasionally. Took a few days to work out optimum settings but that's probably true of any stove. I've found it best to load it up with plenty of wood early on. It feels like it's burning a lot of logs but once its built up a bed of ash it's incredibly economical for the rest of the day, requiring only a very occasional log to keep it ticking over nicely. I bought the multi-fuel version because I thought I'd need to burn coal as well to get the heat I wanted... but I should just have bought the woodburner model as I will never need to put coal on it, it's so efficient.
All in all, a great stove and one I would thoroughly recommend.Stove expert replied: It takes time to learn how to get the best from a stove so do not expect to get it right in the early days. Good feedback.
