Review of Clearview 750 stove

Overpriced, bad design and expensive to operate.

Our stove is now 20 years old. It was expensive at the time and has not lived up to the hype or the price. Several design features are suspect. The door and ash pan handles are brass which is a great conductor of heat so they get too hot to touch, sensible design? The rope seals on the door and ash pan get compressed very quickly and become ineffective, meaning the stove races. The air-wash system for keeping the glass clear doesn''t really work and the glass blackens very quickly. The method for closing the ash pan applies an uneven force to the door resulting in poor sealing and air leaks causing the stove to race.It has double glazed doors (can''t see any benefit to this) unlike most other stoves. Four replacement glass panels cost about £200.It eats grates we have had about four or five in twenty years. They are currently about £90 a pop. All the other spare parts and there are lots of them are very expensive. I would definitely not buy this stove again. It was a bit of an impulse buy, thinking high price meant good quality. There are much better options for a lot less money.
