Decent small stove with a few minor flaws

Mike Woolley 8 years ago

We moved into our new house 6 months ago, this stove was installed approx 2-3yrs ago.

It's a solid little thing which heats effectively, but suffers from the flaws inherent in low cost appliances. Handle is slightly loose and therefore cumbersome to latch despite regular realignments, handle also becomes very hot to touch so keep a glove or the supplied tool nearby. Both airflow handles have a wobbly motion to them, primary air is quite loose and cannot be tightened further.

The secondary air movement is restricted to adhere to DEFRA rulings on smoke exemption, which affects the slow burn potential of this stove. It really rips through fuel even when secondary air is fully "closed". As we don't live in a smoke controlled area, I may have a go at de-restricting the secondary air - anyone had success?

Stove expert replied: The Defra stove may have been installed to enable a 5" (125mm) flue liner to be used so do check before you undo any of the modifications that have been made to this stove. If a smaller liner has been used then only a Defra Approved stove should be used on it, current regulations state that non - Defra models require a minimum liner of 150mm.
