Review of Esse Ironheart cooking range

Esse Ironheart

Bought stove about 5 months ago to fit in our inglenook fireplace. Extremely pleased with it. We use only wood. The firebox is plenty big enough. The secret is to always leave plenty of ash at the bottom of the firebox for the next fire and to use well seasoned wood. The fire is relatively easy to start although not as easy as with a Clearview wood burner which we were used to. But Clearviews are renowned for their ease of use. The stove puts out loads of heat (we regularly run it at over 400 F - good idea to have a stove thermometer on the front somewhere) and stays in over night. The controls are a bit basic in the sense that the air inlets are either in or out with no calibrated adjustment (again the Clearview is more sophisticated in that regard but they just make stoves, not cookers as well). We have found that in order to get the fire going it helps to leave the bottom door open to encourage a bit more draught until the fire gets established. We are still getting used to the oven but so far have had no problems other than not being entirely sure how to convert the description on the Esse dial to F or C. Agree that the handles are not as user friendly as they might be but they are attractive! Ideally I would have liked more space on the top of the stove for kettles etc. but that would have meant a wider stove. As for service, we did have an issue with the glass fire door. We needed to tighten it (smoke leaking out) and the instructions were not clear. We did experience a slight delay in getting a response but after chasing they did respond with the right instructions. So recommend keep chasing if no joy at first.
