Review of Clearview vision 500 stove

I wanted to buy anything but a clearview as everybody around us has one. However the more people we spoke to the more we were swayed back to clearview. Our local dealer initially advised 5kw based on the size of the living room but he couldn't install it till next year so we tried the next closest installer. They sent an old guy who told us he had 4 clearview in his own houses and he wouldn't be tempted by anything else. This installer was not a clearview dealer. By this time I was getting concerned about the small firebox size and the size I''d need to chop logs down to for 5kw. Also our stove was to be set into a smallish fireplace so I thought it better to go with the larger output stove as we''d be heating the fireplace rather than the room space. We got original installer out for a look and he immediately advised the larger stove but still couldn't install until next year. So we bought stove from him and fitted it ourselves. It''s very heavy and we''ll made. The efficiency is not that great and it''s easy to see why with cool spots at edges of firebox. The door handle is close to stove and gets very hot. Must wear gloves but it''s a bit close to stove for a gloved hand. Also it makes a grinding metal on metal noise when operated. It''s neither positive or easy to operate but it''s heavy, well made and looks like it will last. The spin wheel air adjustment works well but jams shut when spun shut. It would be better if it didn't need a gloved hand to operate. The airwash works very well without a gloved hand but can be quite noisy with a noticeable noise of air rushing into stove. Also it doesn't shut the air off completely. The paint requires a couple of uses to bake it onto stove. This is very smelly with what seemed like nasty gases. At the money you'd think it should be pre-baked on. Overall we are happy and don't think there's another stove wed be better off with but I wish I'd chosen to make one as the clearview is a lot of money for a basic stove, there's not much to it and it wouldn't be hard to improve upon with some minor modifications. At the money it's a bit frustrating that this stove is no better than my parents vision 500 from over 15 years ago.
