Review of Bergen stove

Burgen - excellent wood burner

Jane 11 years ago

I love my burner....no complaints at all and it heats my room so well that even in this cold weather I have to keep doors open so end up heating the whole house.

Re lighting, I notice a few unfavourable comments but if you know how to start it properly (my installer showed me), it will light without a problem.

The tip is to load it with kindling and small logs (and I mean load it!), keep the door slightly open until the flue reaches 200 centigrade (400 farenheight, you will need a flue thermometer but they only cost a few pounds,....by then it will be burning well and you can shut the door and close the vent and it will burn and burn. But it is really important to get the heat up into the flue before you shut the door. Alot of a burners have a second vent that you keep open when starting it - the Bergen utilises the door instead.

It can take as little as 20 mins and as long as an hour depending on how cold it is, and the quality of the logs is most important.

I think people are closing the door before the fire is going properly which is why they are struggling to light it.

It is a great burner and I would recommend it to anyone.
