Villager BL Woodburner Stove

We installed the stove the during the week before Christmas 2008 and it has been lovely to have a 'real' fire instead of a fake gas log one. A good looking stove and so easy to use - we have an open plan house and it warms upstairs nicely as well.

briliant

I have had mine for 18 years and looks like new. I would not change it for the world best thing we bought. The only fault that I have is that it does not have a better way of keeping the glass on the door but I suspect that this has been improved.

Villager B Series

We have had this stove for a number of years (15) we think and throughout this time it has served us well as an efficient heater and water heater. We must have saved a fortune over the years in electricity etc. This wonderful friend it the first to be visited in the morning to rake through the embers to make it spring into life. It is great at smoldering on through the night and has never let us down.

We have had so many happy times wallowing in it warmth.

Wood or other fuels this fire is the tops for us.

Buy one and you'll be pleased how smart you were.

Old faithful!

This is the second Villager Flatmate we have had. We have had over 15 years continuous service out of the current stove and it still cleans up like new. And we REALLY use our stove. Our home was flooded a few years back and our stove looked like a pile of rust. After a quick run over with a wire brush and a coat of stove black, it came up like new again. And no rust came back either.

It is a very simple design BUT the great thing is the baffle on the chimney, which makes it so controllable. We have friends with more expensive "trendy" woodburners and we sit and watch their wood burn away in no time at all.

The only reason that I didn't give the overnight burning a 5 is that you do need to use a good mix of wood to keep the stove in overnight. If you use the right wood, there is no problem keeping it in.

We live in a large 5 bed house and the Villager can keep the whole house lovely and warm. Don't be put off by the size, it is a little treasure!

We also do a lot of cooking on the stove. It's great for stews, casseroles and makes the most amazing steamed Christmas puddings!

All in all, for the price this is a gem!

Villager Flatmate

I've been running a Villager Flatmate for about 10 years. Being of traditional design, compared with a modern cleaner burning 'Clearview' for example, quite heavy tar deposits are left around the doors. I find the stove is not economical when burning just soft wood so a mix of both soft and hard wood is essential. Adding too much wood at once tends to leave tar deposits on the glass even with the top vents open so using smaller logs with the bottom vents set about halfway allows burning at a temperature high enough to keep the glass clean. Being of heavy construction it does take about an hour to reach full output. The rope door seals need replacement every 4/5 years but generally there is very little smoke leakage into the room. Overall I consider the stove to have been durable, good value for money and look forward to enjoying it for many more years to come. It also does excellent toast.

I love my villager

I don't know why it doesn't stay in overnight when everything else about it is brilliant. My son in law bought one at the same time as us (his third), and he lights it in october and doesn't let it out till march, - we must be doing something wrong!

Villager Flatmate - ugly, but good

Great in terms of functionalilty and finish, just looks a bit ugly, like a weird cast iron elizabethan bulldog thing. Anyway, we bought it cheap, in a hurry, and it's done the job. Close the lower vents and leave the damper 70% open and it festers away like a good 'un, kicking out heat, but burning slow. Need to clean glass once every 3-4 weeks. My only worry is it'll last forever, preventing me from buying anything prettier
