Review of Verner 13/10 wood burning boiler stove

Verner 13/10 for 3 Bed Detached House CH & DHW

GERRY MOORHOUSE 8 years ago

Now into 2nd winter of Verner 13/10 whole house heating. We have the rear stoking model which also has the ashpan removed via the back of the stove - directly to the outside via a service door in our case.

The installation involves a heatstore (thermal store/buffer tank) which means we also get most of our DHW from the Verner as well as house heating via existing CH radiators. The Verner is installed in a 25m2 kitchen which is also open plan on to dining room. The rated 3kW to the room seems about right. The only negative on the stove was a loose front trim panel which snagged on the stove door. Otherwise is provides a great deal of heat, is very easy to light and has extremely clean combustion, we only found about a cup of soot on each chimney sweep so far. The specification is extremely high, with features such as scrappers to clean the heat exchanger every time the bypass damper is opened (for refuelling). The internal ceramic lining is a key feature of the stove, very tough and is the key to the high combustion temperatures. Overall, its best thought of as a purpose made wood fired boiler, rather than a stove with additional (afterthought) add-in boiler inserts. And finally, any small amount of glass discolouration soon burns off when the stove is back to full operating conditions
