Review of Tiger stove

Should have replaced my gas fire years ago

Denise Doherty 9 years ago

I was reluctant to give up my living flame gas fire, but it had started to show many signs of wear and we were having the room completely stripped of plaster and the ceilings replaced. After reviewing and looking at many mutifuel stoves, I decided to try this one.

It has now been in for almost 3 years and is used very regularly. I always burn the appropriate coal and logs and other than having to tighten the door handle on occasions and the brick at the back showing a few cracks it is doing very well indeed.

I would not be without it and if it fell to pieces tomorrow, I would buy the same one again.

We have replaced the rope seal and glass once. This was not down to breakage, but the original glass seemed to craze with the heat. The replacement one has done the same thing.

Perhaps someone could advise?

Stove expert replied: Crazing that creeps across the glass (like a spiders web effect) is due to the stove not being operated at a high enough temperature (keeping the airwash shut down too much) the gasses stay in the firebox too long and attack the glass. The glass integrity is not compromised but the crazing can't be removed. Try leaving the air wash open more and give the stove short periods of fast burn (no more than 15-20mins max) with all controls fully open.
