Review of The Flatford 8kw

Chesney Flatford 8

Purchased and operated Flatford 8kw over a year now.\n\nWe use it as a secondary heat source in a very large and tall living room. During the winter it was on every day from 1500 to 2200 hrs. We have burned seasoned wood for about 90% of the time.\n\nThe fire is very well made, looks great and very easy to light. \n\nIt does take a large amount of wood to get up to temperature. Once the stove is hot the fire is great and can be controlled.\n\nThe air-wash facility does not work well while burning coal, easily staining the window. While burning seasoned wood the air-wash works extremely well. We started cleaning with damp newspaper dipped in wood ash daily but through experience it only needs a clean every week, 2 mins. \n\nThe fire box is big and can take large logs, makes logs cheaper to buy.\n\nWe tried the overnight burning and did not work also it took me three days to clean the glass. Not recommended.\n\nThe front airflow rod is quite exposed when extended and you must be careful not to catch it/bend it. It could do with a fine control or notches to adjust the draw of the fire.\nThe side riddling rod is now slack and slightly bent.\n\nIn summary this is a great looking stove that when in use with logs looks great, pumps out heat and the window is kept clear all the time.\nHowever when using coal or night burning the window soots up very quickly and requires a large effort to clean. The front rod design could be modified to prevent being caught/bent.\n\nI would recommend this fire to anyone who wishes to have a log burner as a secondary heating system that also looks fantastic.\n\n

Stove expert replied: Overnight burning is not generally recommended as glass will become discoloured. Clean with short periods of fast burn or a cloth dipped in woodash.
