Stovax Stockton Highline 6 stove

We considered this stove and the Clearview equivalent which was much more expensive. The build of this stove is as good as the Clearview. It is solid and a good looking addition to the living room.

One question we were unable to get any real indcation about was whether the warming shelf, which looks like an open oven, could be used to cook with. Well, it can be said that it does work as a reasonably good slow cooker. We bought a Le Chaseur small, oval ceramic caserole dish. This was used to cook a steak and kidney caserole with. There was enough food for two, and it took about 4 hours to cook through. The caserole was delicious. Some baking potatoes were tried. We used very large potatoes wrapped in foil. They were perfect, but did take six hours to cook through. It would take a lot less with smaller potatoes. Overall, we are very pleased with the cooking potential of the warming shelf. The only warning is cover the tiles with foil first if you are using a small caserole. Our first attempt resulted in liquid boiling over, and the smell was not good for the rest of the day until we had the opportunity to let it cool down and clean it. For information a Le Creuset 23cm oval caserole dish fits into the oven snuggly.

The airwash system is ok, but is only fully effective when the fire is blazing away. As soon as it is put into slumber it blacks up. However, a very good tip from a friend sorts this out. When the fire is cool get two pieces of kitchen role. Wet one with water. Dip this into the cold ash in the ash pan the rub the window with it to remove the tar/creosote on the window. It is suprising how badly blacked glass can be cleaned. Then, use the other piece of kitchen roll to remove the dirt. Result, clean glass.

Overall, we are very please with this stove and would recommend it to anyone. It is so much more of a feature than a small 6KW stove without the log store or warming shelf. This is especially so if, like us, you do not have a fire place feature to enhance the stove.

Stove expert replied: Is the wood that is being burnt less than 20% moisture content? Another glass cleaner is a damp cloth dipped in vinegar but the wood ash works really well. Good review.
