Review of Stovax Stockton 5 stove

Had this stove fitted a month ago by a qualified engineer who has been very helpful with advice but the only way we can keep it going (it's a multi-fuel and we prefer coal, the proper smokeless for this type of stove), is to start it as suggested which is great and heats up quickly. However it soon dies down and if left quickly dies, but if we put some kindling in and a log it soon fires up again and then we put coal on and it's fine. However our fitter says we shouldn't use wood and coal together but this seems the best way to get the best results. The thermometer flies up to the end of the White mark then soon dips to below it whe we start the fire and I have a moisture tester so the wood is dry and the coal is the right one. Will it do the fire or chimney any harm doing it our way. We know the ash can should have ash in for wood and none in for coal. As far as I can see the way we do it is ok, fuel is fuel whatever we use. Any advice would be appreciated, the open fire in the sitting room seems to give more heat with no problems or attention every few minutes.
