Harmony 13

fitted one of these in our conservatory last autumn-it's north-facing and even though it has a radiator in, has never been usable in winter-in fact, we called it the morgue, and tended to use it as a super-sized fridge! The little Harmony has made an unbelievable difference through this winter, so much so, in fact, that we frequently light it now first thing in the morning, just for the pleasure of having breakfast and enjoying the view AND also being toasty warm! The stove is then closed down, and will happily radiate heat with no further attention for the rest of the day. Very controllable, very economical to run - only two points to watch. Firstly, probably because we have a very high external flue, it's much easier to use firelighters to light with, and it is also important to make sure that there is airflow through the grate when lighting the stove- either a quick riddle or a stir with a poker does the trick. It works equally well with wood or solid fuel, and we tend to use a mixture of both.

Stove Expert Replied: Exterior flue systems cool quickly and hence can be problematic to light the stove once cooled. If you can heat slightly first it will make things easier (but using a firelighter is no great problem in this case it seems).

Nestor Martin Harmony 13

I've had this stove for 5 years now ,and every time I look at it this cold weather I think it's the best thing I ever spent money on. As the other s say ,the riddling can be a bit of a pain ,and to dismantle it for cleaning can be too: but for ease of use and economy with fuel it's great . The living room door has to remain open to get the heat out of the room . I reckon it saves me about £500 a year against gas CH ,which is on only 2 hours a day compared to the 16 it used to be . I burn anthracite when no one is in and logs or pallets when sitting near it (not that you can sit too near) . I would recommend it to anyone. Only one fault-it doesn't heat the water.

Stove Expert Relied: A successful outcome to heating your home and cutting down on energy bills! When ready to change perhaps go for a stove that can heat your water for further energy saving. Thanks for great feed back.

Best stove ever

I had the older Harmony 5 stove which was good but the controlability and heat output of this newer version is fantastic. I note it says it is a steels stove but I can tell you it is cast iron, the efficiency is much more than stated at 83.4%net/75.9%gross and I can believe it. The glass never blackens and I can burn both wood and maxibrite on it over night and it is still lit the next morning. When lit you would think it was a gas stove it is so controlable. The controls are easy to work and so easy to swap from wood to smokeless coal and back by just moving one lever to direct the air to the right place. Would recommend this stove.

A Curates Egg

Bit of a mixed bag this one. Overall a reasonable stove but there are downsides to it, most of which are covered by other reviews. I have had this stove for 3 years burning wood each evening Autumn and Spring and continuously in Winter using Anthracite nuts and have found it easy to keep in overnight slumbering at tickover. The downsides to the stove are that it is rated at a lower output for solid fuel as opposed to wood (5KW for wood and only 3.5 KW output for solid fuel the latter of which I have found inadequate.) The riddling system is poor. The circular design only clears ash from the centre of the stove leaving ash to accumulate at the sides thus further reducing efficiency and output. The only way around this is to inset the supplied poker when the firebed is low and rake the ash toward the centre - creating dust galore particularly with manufactured fuels such as maxibrite.

The riddling grate itself tends to jam, probably due to expansion when heated and for this reason I would not consider any stove that has a similar type of mechanism when burning solid fuels.

The airwash is poor. The "glass" soon turns milky and it is difficult to see what is happening in the firebed behind it.

The stove itself is complex and difficult to work on. last summer I had to relace the rope around the ash door. Getting the door off and back was a nightmare. Heaven knows how you would replace the air control apparatus! Technical back-up advice from Euroheat is good however which is a positive.

To sum up: is it worth the high price? in my view, no, as it fails as a multifuel appliance. It is far too complex for what is basically a simple task
and sadly I shall be parting with mine sometime in the Spring.

Worth the effort

Have found that once the controls are mastered then this stove is well worth the effort. It seemed odd to use the allen key to begin with but now it is just second nature
Easy to light and burns well. Have tried it with smokeless as well as wood.
We have managed to keep it going overnight after only a little practice.
Seems to burn very efficiently and really throws out some heat once it gets going and keeps the downstairs of our 3 bed house very warm. This has meant that we are using much less gas for heating.

shame about the controls

I've bought one of these lovely stoves some time ago and after 4 weeks I finally cut my losses and sold it half price on Ebay to somebody else that did not mind crawling around on the floor with an allen key in their hand trying to adjust the air flow!!! It's a real shame that Euroheat could not get this very vital part of any stove right. If the controls were easy to operate and the stove did not have the silly double glass that get milky after no time at all - then it would be a very good stove. My advise - stay well clear of the current range and buy a Stanford 80 or Harmony1 or 3 instead. These older versions (I've used them all) are made just as well and are far easier to control. The airwash on the older versions works better too and they are ca. 30% cheaper too. Good luck.

H13 Stove

I have owned several stoves over the years (Morso, Jotal,Godan, ect) and it has to be said some are better than others when it comes to control, finish and efficiency however the H13 I have been using for the last 3 years is by far the best stove I have ever owned/operated its just so easy the more you leave it the better it runs and this suits me down to the ground I have managed 10 hours on one loading of wood and 14 hours on solid fuel and I still have clean glass! this is great as I need a stove that will stay in and let me get on with the daily chores, the ash pan I empty about once a week when burning wood and each day when I’m burning solid fuel (maxi-brite I have found to work well ) however this is simple task.

Fantastic little stove

I have had this little stove for 2 winters now and would not be without it. It heats my 3 storey Victorian town house and in the 1st year reduced my gas bill by over a 3rd which is amazing for such a small stove. I have had other wood burning stoves before and this one is by far the easiest to operate and control. I can even keep it in all night on wood something I could never do with the other stoves I had.
I have gone from burning a basket full of logs an evening to 4 or 5.

Fanatstic stove

Have had many different stoves over the last 20 years this stove is simply the best thing around. It was a bit of a shock to start with as the technology inside this little stove is so much different to many others, but once I got the hang of it, I never have to clean the glass, it stays in over night and uses far less wood than my other stoves. No question that this is the stove to buy.

One to avoid?

I have a Morso Squirrel in one fireplace and one of these in the other. They are chalk and cheese and this is definitely the chalk.
Firstly it is not multifuel. It has a riddling grate, yes, but it only works when it's cold. The moment it heats up it expands and gets stuck. My local stove retailer admitted they will only sell it as a woodburner for exactly that reason.
The operating controls are housed behind a bottom door which tends to be left open when the stove is in use. But they do not look pretty - very industrial. And the operating tool is just a rather naff big allen key with a wooden sleeve. The handle of the main door is brass so you have to put on a fireglove every time you open it when the stove is running.
The glass isn't - it's some ceramic material and goes misty over time ... says it will in the manual.
And it is sold with a flue protector for use if the top outlet is used. Very fiddly if you expect to sweep the chimney from inside the stove. And surely better design would make a flue protector unnecessary.
All's fine when it comes to actual lighting and burning - it's just a pain to operate. All in all, too clever for its own good.
