Review of Morso Squirrel Cleanheat stove

Clean heat Morso stove

Iain MacCallum 15 years ago

With forty years experience of wood burners, I can happily say the Morso Squirrel is, by far, the best stove I have ever had. It is a pleasure to use and ours burns 24/7 from september until May. Fed on a diet of dry and well seasoned hard wood it is trouble free and stays in (fully shut down), without problems for easily 12 hours. Very occasionally you will get a "hung Fire", ie the logs do not settle as they burn and an air gap is left between the main charge and the embers. The stove may then go out, but the fault lies with the stoker not the stove.

As with all wood burners the secret is a supply of dry hard wood and I mean really dry. My logs are cut and stored in a very well ventilated shed for a minimum of 12 months before using. From September to May I will burn between 6 and 8 tonnes of seasoned hard wood in the Morso.

Overnight burning is a given, but the stove should be "roared" for an hour twice a day to clear its throat.

The stove is also an excellent little cooker and we keep a kettle hottering on it at all times.

Enjoy it, it is a delight to own.
