Review of Merlin Standard stove

disapointing

Mark Johns 6 years ago

I must agree with Mr Jenkins on his review. I too have the Merlin standard and the throat plate (baffle) has again failed for the second time!! Replaced after the second year and gone again quite dramatically in the third year!! It has bowed quite considerably into the firebox and needs to be replaced. Substandard construction materials no doubt! (chinese steel? And imported?) This has resulted from the stove running at a quarter of its heat output so please, no replies on running too hot or turn your stove down!! The main body of the stove apparantly carries a lifetime guarantee and the inside components a 5 year guarantee. The handle is also a dreadfull design, loose and cheap fitting and actually the worst I have ever seen on a stove which is a pity as the main body appears to have such strength and quality. Also the RAM (rapid air movement) does not compare with the performance of stoves with primary and secondary controls for flame picture. Not a recommended purchase unfortunately

Stove expert replied: The failed parts are being replaced with modern better constructed materials that will reflect the same stove that is currently sold by Merlin so the customer is now happy with this product.
