Review of Lovenholm stove

Excellent Little Stove

Pete Rowland 9 years ago

We have had this stove for 4 weeks in a 1930s semi detached cottage with lots of original features and drafts to match. Even with temperatures down to 0.c at night it has kept the house nice and warm. It will heat both upstairs bedrooms and bathroom plus 3 reception rooms down stairs with ease.

It takes a little while to heat the house because this one like most stoves, weighs 90kg and all that steel has to get hot before the heat will radiate and convect around the house. However, once warm turning down the fire means we use about 1 large 4" log an hour for the rest of the evening.

It came with a variety of burning materials as samples. The straw in a brown paper bag are clean to use but needed a hot fire to really burn properly and can go out if there isn't sufficient air flow. The bricks of what looks like compressed chipboard are better and last a long time, we use one of these when going to bed as it stays lit. However, we can get 3 for 2 bags of hardwood for £12 at the moment so are burning these until our own timber is dry enough to use.

It produces about a cereal bowl of ash every 3 or 4 days, certainly nothing like the coal fires of my childhood.

Downside, the main top vent is a little course to adjust requiring tiny adjustments to make quite a big difference. However, we soon got used to this.

Overall a quality stove which is perfect for heating our home, simple to light and easy use or clean.
