Review of Jotul F3 stove
Jotul F3 Multifuel
We have our F3 in a Georgian house in Yorkshire. It replaced an open fire and is lightly brought forward in the hearth to aid air to the room.
We have the multifuel version. We use the F3 with wood and with smokeless fuel. It works well with both. The smokeless is hotter but there is more ash. Lighting is easy , as long as I remember to open the air vent at the bottom of the stove (close for wood when well lit). The fire sets well and soon builds up temperature. The fire is easily controlled with the air vent control at the top right. This gets hot but is well tapered and so does not does not stick and then "give" a long way, which was an issue on our Stovax. What I would change on this stove: 1 The ash pan is small and could have been made deeper. 2 The door handle is stiff, but that's good with kids around. 3 there should be an external riddler for using smokeless fuel 4 the air intake is noisy - you can hear the air going in through the vents at the front. You soon learn to ignore it. What I liked 1) throws off very adequate heat in a large and somewhat draughty room. 2) easily controlled, especially with solid fuel 3) lights easily 4) good view of flames 5) well constructed 6) so much better and warmer and less messy than the old open fire - why did I wait so long to replace that? 7 draws well. we have the back vent fitted and it works perfectly Overall, we are happy with the purchase and very satisfied with what the stove does. The main thing I would change is to add an external riddler.Stove expert replied: Nice fair review of this stove. External riddling mechanism a real bonus and much easier to operate.
