Hunter Herald 5 Slimline single door

Bought this stove about three years ago. First problem was the door would not seal correctly, had to 'adjust' the door sealing rope to make it fit. As it's steel construction and not cast iron it creaks as it heats up and cools. As remarked it is a big stove but the heat output is low for its size and the radiant heat through the door glass is poor. The rear firebricks split within a few months of use.

I intend to replace it!

Stove Expert Replied: Poor review overall. Stove doors quite often need adjusting after transportation and settlement but it sounds like the rope was in wrong place to make the seal from what is written. Firebricks do crack on a regular basis but providing they stay in place it is not a problem as they still protect the metal of the stove.

Our stove is now 1 year old. Very pleased with all aspects of specification and performance. The stove heats all of the downstairs area of our 3 bedroom house after 1 hour of lighting. We went for the single door option for ease of loading and flame view.

Hunter Herald 5 slimline

Had this stove since Oct 2007. Heats up fine but can be tricky to get going. Hot enough for a medium room. Airwash works very well once going. Like the name slimline, thin logs work best which can be annoying. Have bought a Hawk 4d for front room so happy was I. In fact I`d have one in every room if I had enough chimneys!!!!

My Hunter Herald 5 slimline stove

This stove is good quality, looks great and can comfortably heat a medium sized room. It needs a good flue and draw though.

Hunter Herald 5 slimline

This is my first and only wood burning stove, so I've nothing to compare it with - apart from the open fire that it replaced. I love it. Looks good and very neat in situ. Easy to light, easy to control the rate of burn, no tarry deposits left on the windows, provided that the ends of logs aren't pointed right at the glass or it's not closed completely when left to burn down, and any tar deposited in these situations burns off very quickly. Economic consumption of wood, too, despite being lit most mornings and every evening in cold weather, sometimes all day.

Hunter 5

On advice from Stoves online (thanks Susi) I chose this model (with single door option) to fit a shallow fireplace (no hearth) and for its heat output. Easy to manage DIY install with supplied, perfect fit, throat plate and flue sections. Works a treat, easy to light, easily controllable and warms the room surprisingly quickly for its size. Downsides are that the brass doorhandle gets much too hot to touch (I use the riddle handle) and the shallow depth limits amount of wood that can be loaded at once. Just about possible to keep burning all night when damped down. Overall I am very hapy with my stove after a year.

Hunter 5

An excellent little stove for wood or coal. The switchable griddle for wood or solid fuel is excellent and its clean burning and very simple and quick to clean. Two doors in a slimline format is great for the smaller fireplace and the wide angle suits low rectangular openings.
Efficient, well build and simple to control with excellent heat output. Very nice design with the beaded windows.
Excellent all rounder.

Hunter 5 review

This is a super little stove. It's well built, very efficient and gives out good controllable heat. The dual setting for solid and wood is really good and makes the whole thing very simple to keep clean.

Having two doors in the slimline version was the main attraction but looks, performance and ease of use are exellent.

Watch out however its very heavy !
