Review of Hunter Herald 8 stove

Great stove for French house

Simon Igo 10 years ago

We had an inbuilt French stove but it did not effectively warm our small farm house; based on cost and recommendation we opted for a HH8. It was easy to start and very quickly produced a good controllable heat. The downstairs is heated very well and residual heat also heats two very large bedrooms above and a third bedroom downstairs; sadly not the kitchen, but then it is shielded by 60cm thick stone wall, so not a surprise really. The kids often complain that they are too warm! We've had this stove now for 6 years: I have had to repaint the top plate due to light rust and the hinge pins ( just 1) does rise up but easily knocked back ( not really a problem). I will need to change the rope this year as one has come unstuck...overall would purchase again.

Stove expert replied: Rope seals should be checked at least annually when the routine maintenance is undertaken. It is important that these remain in a good state so that the stove can worked effectively and efficiently. Also check the glass gaskets, locking mechanisms, lines and baffle / throat plate and replace as necessary to insure longevity of the stove.
