Review of Hunter Herald 14 stove

Has not lasted 3 winters but otherwise OK

Installed this stove to replace an open fire with small back boiler. This now supplements/ replaces oil CH system to which the Herald 14 is connected.

When hot after 1 to 2 hours works well. Thermostat does not pump water until water jacket has got hot and then pumps cold water from rest of system in to a hot wrap around jacket is this good for longevity? See end of review

Yes the griddle bars do warp in middle due to heat from anthracite. Yes air controls are crude and coarse.

Stays in over night on right fuel but are all stoves hard work.

Needs fuelling every 2 hours max and ash emptying at least once per day. Riddle bars carbon up so need taking out every 2 to 3 months otherwise jams up as mentioned by others.

Glass will smoke up whatever you do , just clean when cold every 2 weeks.

For me the stove with wrap around jacket has failed after only 2 winters of use.

Am thinking of looking elsewhere for replacement despite the warranty offer of 80% of unit cost
