Review of Hunter Hawk stove

Hunter no longer the best, far from it.

Hunter has started to build their stoves down to a price and it shows.

A perfect example is the application of poor quality screws used in the glass retaining clips, discovered when attempting to fit the replacement glass. The glass in the Hawk spontaneously cracked while the stove was cold and not in use. Literally I heard a noise and to my surprise found the glass had cracked. The glass retaining clips surely could not have been over tightened given that I am using the stove exactly as your factory set it.

Even the highest quality stainless steel screws would only cost a few pence but Hunter seemingly decided to use the lowest quality screws available. Consequently I suffered enormous difficulty removing these screws. Despite using penetrating oil and heat, for all but one screw, proved extremely difficult and for one proved impossible. The head of the screw has sheared off. So I had the aggravation and considerable cost of getting the seized screw removed. How Hunter can justify such mindless penny scrimping on some of the most expensive stoves on the market is disgraceful, especially on a part that is regularly replaced.

My advice would be, avoid.

Despite writing to Hunter customer services detailing the problems I experienced with the stove, I did not receive a reply. I know they received the letter as I sent it recorded.

In summary, low quality parts and non-existent customer service.

Stove expert replied: Disappointing comments but not sure of the age of the stove, screws often cause problems once the stove has been used so may be worth WD40 periodically and just undoing them and re-tightening to insure they are moving freely in future.
