Review of Glaisdale stove
Excellent performance over 12 years
This heats an open plan area of dining room office and kitchen, approx 120 cubic metres. It's the only heating we use, and is lit throughout the day and some nights from October until April, and intermittently for the rest of the year. Along with a Priory in the front room, it consumes around 600cu ft of stacked wood per year.
Over this time replacements have been one baffle plate, which burnt through, and a set of fire bricks ; I think an impressively low running cost. As the fire is so easy to light, unless temperatures are very low, we don't bother to keep it in every night. The airwash system works really well. All that is required is a damp cloth wash every couple of weeks to remove powdery ash from the glass. To avoid any soot build up, always leave the top vents slightly open. In conclusion, this an excellent stove, well made, easy to light and control. Some comments about firewood. It goes without saying that use only well seasoned wood. If bought ready cut it is advisable to stack and store it for a year before use to ensure moisture content of less than 10 - 15%. A moisture meter is well worth buying.- Be the first to comment
