Review of Franco Belge Montfort stove

A French beauty. Montfort ELEGANCE Mk II

We needed a stove that could fit into a modern smaller fire opening, have a large firebox, be good at lighting up and look good at the same time. In addition, we wanted an ivory enamel finish which not all stove manufacturers provide. I have to say I am delighted with this stove. It lights and burns wood really well and throws out sufficient heat to keep our large living room very warm. We also avoided the dreaded air brick by chosing this stove.

On the negative, I'm not sure if the fire is that controllable using the controls provided, particular the top lever which doesn't appear to do anything. In fairness, I'm still getting use to the fire so it could be me.

My advice is to get a recommended stove fitter. I didn't We were disappointed with ours as the standard of their work was poor. They also advised me not to have an ivory enamel as it would discolour. I'm so pleased I ignored their advice.

Stove expert replied: Air bricks are not only required for stoves over the 5kW's as it used to be stated, the regulations have changed so please insure that you check this out as you may still need one!
