Review of Dunsley Highlander 5 stove

Excellent multifuel stove

Diana Hunter 10 years ago

Installed this stove approx 3 months ago and am more than happy with it's performance. Easy to light, easy to keep going, easy to clean out, keeps living room comfortably warm (occasionally too hot so I let some heat go up the stair to warm the rest of the house).

In a smokeless zone so did lots of research into various DEFRA approved multifuel stoves, read reviews on this site, and combined with the sensible price tag meant this was the best choice on paper. Also, 5" flue meant fitting was much easier/quicker for the installer (chimney pots remained in place, flue pipe didn't get stuck).

Door knob was stiff to begin, eased off through use. Handle tool gave enough leverage that it's not been an issue. Took a while to get the best out of the controls - stove pipe thermometer makes it much easier. Found window would soot up if vents were closed too early - best to light fire and get the temp up to 300degC/550degF ish, then close bottom vent, and use top (airwash) vent as burn control to bring back into best burn zone.
