Fantastic, amazing. Look no more. It's the best fire I have ever installed. It definitely stays in all night if you close it down far enough. Airwash works perfectly. It gives off excellent heat. Doors always clear. Hardly used the central heating since installation in my 4 bed detached home. In summary, I can't find one single fault with it.

Clearview vision insert stove

Very pleased. One of my considerations when choosing this woodburning stove was would it burn overnight. One evening i pushed the air control nozzle to the low and placed one very large lump of well seasoned hawthorne onto the glowing embers. To my amazement it burnt for 20 hours !

Stove expert says: hawthorne is a great, dense, fuel.

INSTALLATION CAUTION for the Clearview vision insert stove

A Cautious tale
My wife & I after weeks & weeks of research & advise we chose what we considered the best choice of stove passable though expensive in its self the Clearview vision insert stove seemed the best financial choice by retaining our original fireplace surround. We took advice & employed a fully qualified & registered installer who specialised in our type of desired installation. The installation involved lining our chimney with a top of the range stainless liner though it did seem that a lot of the existing lining & bricks were being removed from the space behind the mantel piece? We were told this was to allow the flue pipe to be connected to the stove correctly to stop smoke & gas leaks, the installer had various problems as it seemed that space was tight. I had requested an in detailed installation guide from Clearview so that no problems were suffered, this I was insistent were adhered to as the installer wanted to fully fill all cavities with vermiculite (this was not recommended) on the second day late in the afternoon the stove was ready to be commissioned. The installer was proud to give a full demonstration all seemed in order the bill was settled and the installer went on his way.
My wife & I sat back to enjoy what we thought would be the end of our weeks & weeks work & preparation. On what was a very cold November evening?.
2 hours later as we sat drink in hand celebrating. We heard & felt a huge jolt & a loud bang!
This came from the chimneybreast. On inspection it had cracked vertically right up to the ceiling & horizontally across the whole chimneybreast. We quickly tried to put out the stove but then another loud bang & another horizontal crack appeared & the vertical crack started to move across the ceiling. We got in touch with the installer immediately who came straight back but was baffled!, over the next week we got in touch with our insurers, Clearview, the suppliers, the installers trade group company in fact everyone that we could. To cut a very long story short (cameras up chimneys etc) stress & upset, extra bills, new ceilings different installer etc. In our experience these inset stoves need to be installed very carefully to the exact manufacturers installation instruction. Or you to could be without heat for 3 very cold winter months.
We did eventually get a stove installed a Clearview pioneer 400 which we are very happy with, in now what we have had converted into a much larger fireplace in which there is lots of room around the stove. By the way we have had this new one in & in use for a couple of years now.

Clearview Vision Inset Stove

I cannot recommend this stove enough! I have had other inset stoves previously and to be honest they are next to useless, giving out little heat and smoking up the glass as soon as the wood starts to burn!

This inset is also perfect for the average sized living room. It heats the room to a lovely cosy temperature without roasting you like many traditional stand-alone stoves - including other stand-alone Clearviews.

The firebox is larger than the equivilant non-inset stand-alone Clearview (taking a 30cm log rather than 20cm), meaning less hassle when out cutting logs, as well as a longer full to empty firebox burning time.

This is an expensive stove (probably about £600 too expensive in my book - RRP £1450), but then it is simply the best on the market, and one of the very few true clean glass airwash stoves. With up to a 2 month waiting list it's easy to see why they command these prices too.

Controllability is similar to a gas stove, with instant results to a change on the controls.

I would say that you don't need to follow the manufacturers installation advice to the letter. A normal twin wall stainless steel flue without the advised insulation (vermiculite) is fine. Also the extra convection box isn't required either. A back boiler is also not advised, unless your hot water tank is very close (within 6ft horizontally & a minimum of 2ft vertically). DIY installation isn't too hard and gives a significant saving, particularly if your looking at using one of Clearview's overpriced recommended installers!

The only points I have marked the stove down one star are; value for money (as previously stated - overpriced) and burning overnight. For example, last night I filled the firebox approx 75% full around midnight and it was only just glowing embers at 6:30am this morning.

My advice, buy British, buy the best, DIY install a Clearview, whilst expensive, it'll see you out & it'll be worth it in the long run!!

Vision inset review

I would strongly recommend this stove. Whilst the stove does cost considerably more than others, it is well worth it. I would certainly buy this stove again, and could not recommend it enough to any prospective buyer.

Clearview Vision 500

Bought a Clearview on the advice of my chimney sweep. The salesman at was so effusive that I thought the stove would not live up to his spiel, but it did. I have had a stove before and this one lights, and once it has burned for about 90 mins seems to use less fuel. I have a big room to heat and the radiators struggled, but the stove does not. In fact in a small house I think I would just use a Clearview stove. Since I installed it 3 weeks ago at least 4 of my friends are keen to get one, this did not happen with my last stove. Well worth the cost.
