Fantastic Stove

This stove does exactly what it says on the label. We have just installed it and are really impressed with it. We had a multifuel Hunter Herald 8 and needed a bigger stove for the size of the room, we had the usual domestic discord over the stove - I wanted the Clearview and Hubby wanted the new Hunter Inglenook with a high output (as we have had no problem with our other two Hunters)The only reason I won was because he couldn't find any reviews or anyone who had had the Inglenook, now we are so glad there were no reviews for it - we wouldn't swap the Clearview 750 for anything, easy to use easy to clean out, airwash works great, sooooo controllable in comparison to our other stoves, our house has never been so hot, everyone that comes moans they are too hot! The First couple of times we lit it we were having to let off a little heat through windows but we have sussed it out now and it's perfect. Handle gets very hot but you are provided with a pair of good gloves with the stove, it looks great (we had the golden fire brown) it is so cosy when it's lit and we have a huge ground floor area for it to warm and it is no problem for it. We are so impressed we are saving up to replace the upstairs stove with the smaller Clearview model. It may be a bit more expensive than some other models but we never realised how much better it would be, the difference is amazing. The only small niggle I have about it is that I find it a little more difficult to light than the Hunter, but I think this is due to the fact that the Hunter had a moveable grate for wood & coal and you could alter the air flow, and on the Clearview it is a solid grate that I think is geared up for wood so I presume it doesn't draw from underneath but over the fuel. There will be a knack that I just havn't sussed yet, but I will. I give it 15 out of 10 - fantastic stove.

Stove Expert Replied: A wonderful review of the Clearview stove, very impressive!

clearview 750

THIS WILL BE OUR SECOND WINTER WITH THE 750 AND I CAN HONESTLY SAY ITS THE BEST MONEY WE HAVE EVER SPENT.IT HAS TURNED OUR HOUSE FROM A FREEZING COLD ONE INTO A LOVELY WARM INVITING HOME. WHOEVER COMES TO OUR HOME ARE VERY IMPRESSED AND ADMIRE IT. IT TOOK A LITTLE GETTING USE TO IT LIGHTING IT AND REGULATING IT BUT NOW WE HAVE GOT IT OFF TO A FINE ART. IF WE WANT IT TO BURN ALL NIGHT WE JUST STOCK IT UP WELL BEFORE WE GO TO BED. THERE HAVE BEEN TIMES WHEN WE HAVE MANAGED TO KEEP IT IN FOR A FEW DAYS WITHOUT IT GOING OUT.IF IT GETS TO HOT WE JUST OPEN THE DOOR TO THE HALL TO RELEASE SOME OF THE HEAT, WHICH MEANS THE HALL AND STAIRS WARM UP. AS FAR AS VALUE FOR MONEY, EXCELLENT WE HARDLY EVER HAVE THE CENTRAL HEATING ON AND ITS MUCH NICER LOOKING AT THE 750 THAN A RADIATOR.

Clearview's monster

We've bought 4 new Clearviews over the past 20 years and use them to heat a large, leak-heat-like-a-sieve, house we own in the Black Forest. So we know them well. The 750 is their top of the range for heat production and it certainly throws out the energy. Do NOT buy this size unless you're sure your room is big enough or you'll be beaten back into the corner. We use ours in a large entrance hall positioned so that the heated air percolates up the stairway and produces remarkable gentle warmth throughout the first floor. In fact if you don't mind cool (but not cold) bedrooms then if you leave the doors open during the evening then by the time you retire all the bedrooms will be nicely comfortable without being stuffy. And the air will be beautifully dry. Another reason for not getting this stove if you're unsure of your space cubic meter-age is that it really runs best and most efficiently (as do all wood-burners) when pushed along at 300-350C. This is a big stove to get to slumber but despite the reports that overnight burning is difficult, it certainly can be done. The trick is a generous bed of hot glowing ashes, then put on a nice heavy 65cm log or two and turn down. I use my index finger to gauge the right size of air-intake. Shut down the left-hand air-intake fully, stick your hand down the right-hand side of the stove along the floor (where its not that hot) until you reach the circulating air-wash control aperture. Stick your finger through half an inch and close the control lever gently onto your finger (male finger!). THAT's the amount of air you'll need to allow the stove to stay in successfully all night and with a bit of experience its not difficult to be able to resurrect the stove as long as 12 hours later with a bit of kindling preceding bigger logs. This is a good stove for big space heating. It comes with flat top, low peak or high peak but of course with either of the latter two you do lose the ability to use the stove for occasional cooking.

Stove Expert Replied: Buying a large stove that is always burning slowly is not recommended as it is inefficient and cause problems in the flue with tar residues building up. Overnight burning is also less efficient if you are wishing to be green.

Have been using one for 15 years

An excellent stove and the best household purchase I have ever made. This winter we ran our Clearview non-stop for a record (for us) three months with no trouble keeping it alight overnight for up to 8 hours. This period it was mostly burning softwood, hardwood makes overnight burning even easier.

In 15 years of use I have had to replace the steel top (ours is a flat top) due to it becoming warped. I have also replaced the fire bricks, the door seals and the inner glass panes.

Criticisms? Well the airwash is perhaps not as good as it could be and one does have to use glass cleaner occasionally; I have found HG glass cleaner to be very effective. It is also essential to use dry wood so in order to keep the stove going all winter long, as we have done this year due to the ridiculous price of oil, one does need a good sized woodshed.

I have a friend who has a Clearview fitted with a back boiler awhich, as one would expect, results in the stove operating at a lower temperature. The result is that he has trouble with the stove tarring up which is not a problem that we experience.

Stove Expert Replied: Short periods of fast burn should help to burn off the tar deposits which accumulate on slow burning stoves and the amounts depend on the fuel used.

Clearview 750

We have had our Clearview stove for 1 year. It is installed with an insulated stainless liner.

The stove is very well made and the airwash works brillaintly. We only ever lightly wipe off a thin grey film of ash from the glass once in a while, but it never soots up. We use a stove thermometer on the exhaust and make sure we run it up to temperature quickly. Once it is hot it will burn anything cleanly, although it is far and away best to use well seasoned wood, when the stovebox stays very hot even with the controls shut right down.

I have never been able to keep the stove in overnight. Perhaps that would be possible if it was allowed to cool down and then banked up heavily with wet wood, but that is a recipe for tarring up the chimney. It is to easy to light and get up to temperature, that I don't mind in the slightest that it doesn't stay lit overnight.

The large firebox takes big logs, which dramatically reduces wood chopping time and the big clean glass doors give a great view of the fire.

Minor gripe on the finish, as a flake of black paint came off the door, but easily remedied. Expensive, but worth it in the long run.

Clearview 750

We have just had this stove fitted three weeks ago. Wow, so glad we held out (or should i say saved up!) for this make/model. We are already total converts to stoves and had a trusty Morso squirrel which we had fitted in a 1970's style house. Now we live in a large extentended old station house in an elevated position. Although it has been relatively mild so far, it has heated a large open plan part of our house with no problems. (We also run a Franco Belge Limousin that we managed to pick up second hand.)

The main benefits of the clearview are the clearwash system- fab and the controllability.Very simple to control.
Anyway, so far so good. Its early days, but so far we are delighted and sure it will pay itself back in diesel costs in no time at all. Also great to know that we are not impacting on the environment.

Clearview 750

We have had our Clearview 750 for nearly twenty years and consider it to be brilliant. The airwash is a revelation, emissions are acceptable, high capacity and simple, wide doors make it easy to load.

My only negative about the company is that I would like a larger version and I think this is still the largest one they make, though not much comes in a bigger size.

Many other stoves will not keep the glass clean, will take only much smaller logs and have stiff or heavy controls and doors. The 750 will save you a lot of time and effort, yet because it is so easy to use, you will use and enjoy it.

We have the flat top which is great for boiling water if there is a power-cut. It is also made in Britain.

One of the Best things I`ve ever spent money on.

Have run two Clearview stoves for four years now. Deciced to move over to wood because heating our 18th century farmhouse on kerosene was getting ridiculously expensive.
Our stoves are a 750 and a 500. Both are very controllable and have wonderful heat output. The design of the grate on the 500 and the airway underneath this grate means that the wood above the grate can be taken from embers to full burn very quickly. The 750 doesn`t `come up` anything like as quickly but we have learned to provoke the fire by shutting down the air controls and opening the left fire door an eighth of an inch to draw air at a fast rate over embers and new wood, leading to a quick restart in the morning.
I am very happy to recommend this manufacturer and these stoves without hesitation.

PS If you`re ever in the vicinity of Ludlow do make the effort to visit the `showroom`, it`s beautiful and I guarantee that you won`t ever have seen anything quite like it.

THE ROLLS ROYCE

Can't fault this masterpiece. The only seal on the stove as far as I can see is the back panel, which is DOUBLE welded, inside and out. The heavy rope seal seals the low canopy. We installed a flexible steel flue and insulated it, and overnight burning is simple. It takes 18" logs which means less work preparing the fuel. The doors are so simple to adjust when the rope seals begin to compress, and the double glazed doors mean cooling room temperatures don't affect the inside glass which stays hot. Boiler options would tar up the glass we were told, but as yet we haven't had a problem although we do burn dry ash and sycamore. The stove is on the pricey side but we were told it was considered to be the Rolls Royce of stoves and we have to agree. Some people are going to have grumbles with anything, but a lot of the problems could be fuel or installation issues. The stoves do exactly what they say on the tin. I would have liked a thermostatic control but it doesn't actually matter too much because the stove controls so beautifully. Wholeheartedly recommend. The best appliance we have ever bought.

Great stove

A great stove. Very easy to light and the windows only discolour if I use unseasoned wood. At 14Kw I didnt expect it to stay in overnight but it often does and I think having my flue lined has helped overall performance. A super quality stove and much better than my previous cast iron one which in just 6 yrs was impossible to keep air tight. Handle does get hot but I always gloves. Thoroughly recommend Clearview in general.

Fitted the stove in october and have loved every minute using it.some things could be slightly better but overall top piece of kit .i have the 45000 boiler and have no trouble at all keeping the glass clean if dry wood is used and only clean the glass once a week.as for overnight burning i let it out every night but often it is still in in the morning and can be revived.as another has said the handle gets hot but they give you a pair of leather gloves to use .it does use a lot of wood but is a big stove that heats most of my house and i have used very little oil this year.some things could be improved, the ash pan is fiddly but not difficult.to sum up totally satisfied and would buy again.sorry about the puntuation marks and grammer but i am not very good on computers.

Very Disappointing

Had high hopes for stove after chatting to the sales person and am so disappointed. The doors are always black despite system to prevent this - unless burn flat out with both vents open for a few hours in which cases it just eats logs and gets overhot. I wouldn't mind that the airwash doesn't work - but the other faults mean I cannot recommend this stove. The door handle becomes too hot to touch (few burns from that) the ashtray does not slide in and out - you have to sort of lift it and hold it in place and turn the handle, too difficult for anyone in our house but me to manage. It doesn't stay in overnight so house is always cold in the morning. Previously owned a morso at last house and regret not buying one this time. Consider this overpriced for build quality. Seems somehow not to have good seals so burns logs at a very quick rate and needs refilling every couple of hours (used a smoke bomb to see where leak was and smoke poured from every single join - dreadful build quality). Really cannot recommend and would love to be able to afford to replace this one.
