Carron Matt Black 4.7 Multifuel Stove

I spent an age trying to find the right stove for my needs and having found one that works brilliantly, I thought I'd write this review. Let me begin by saying that although the enamel version of this stove looks very attractive I have been informed by Hetas stove professionals that they have a tendency to crack and are loathed to install them. I live in an old (small) stone built cottage so didn't want anything too powerful and neither did I want to have an airbrick installed (which is required with larger stoves). I find that the 4.7kw capacity more than adequate for my needs and the look of the stove fits perfectly with the style of my home. I wanted to cut down on the usage of my central heating (doesn't everybody these days?) and ideally wanted a stove that I could leave for several hours both overnight and whilst I was out at work. This stove allows me to do this using smokeless coal - logs have a tendency not to last as long. Of course the firebox size is small when compared to other stoves, but the area is surprisingly wide so can accommodate a surprising amount of coal. I have marked the airwash down slightly as the glass does need a good wipe after a few days of burning coal but this is quite normal really. I have also marked the handle operation down by one mark as the handle gets hot as it cannot be removed, however I just use a glove to open/close the door so problem solved! The ash tray needs emptying every morning due to it's size but this doesn't bother me too much as it only takes a few moments! Everything else on this stove works brilliantly and I am utterly impressed with the amount of heat it generates. I believe the stove sells for around £450/£500 but I managed to get an ex-showroom model for £380 via the internet which arrived in perfect condition.

In conclusion I have no hesitation in recommending the Carron 4.7kw stove to all of you who are looking for a smaller and more traditional design.

Stove Expert replied: Bargin price for ex-showroom model. Good feedback.

Carron Stove cream 7KW

Wanted a cream stove and liked the Carron colour and stove for occasional use.
Bought this cream stove in the East and fitted December, Built up the heat over a couple of weeks from kindling fire.
Worked well, heated the room well while burning seasoned ash no coal.
Airwash worked where the airflow reached so had to clean in between.
The door didn't fit well and drew in air when the vents were closed so difficult to control.
late January noticed cracks and flaking on top leading edge this increased with use and cracks appeared along left top side.
Contacted supplier looking for resolution after series of questions and photos got a replacement.
Supplier or importer reported no reported problem so had a specialist look at it to check quality of enamel to back my case.
Unpacked on delivery found the lower hinge bent and cracked and door did not seat well and found the colour was darker cream.
Supplier really attentive and got refund.
while looking for new stove found another vendor with same cracking/flaking awaiting return to importer.

Shame as we liked the style and colour.

Stove Expert Replied: Enamel stoves can be different colours when intense heat is, an unfortunate problem. Shame that this stove had more problems though.

Carron 6.7Kw Matt black Multifuel

Bought new for £450 & fitted it July 2010 wished I had got one earlier. It heats most of the house just open the room doors and let the heat flow, my February 2011 gas bill was £54 compared to £268 in 2010 although I spent £60 on Taybright smokeless fuel to supplement my free wood supply. I have used the central heating a total of 9 hours over the winter quarter as most mornings the room is still quite warm. It was -15C for a few nights in December so I banked it up with Taybright at around 10:30 PM and it was still going the following morning at 6:30 AM. The door handle gets very hot and could be better designed but overall I think this stove was brilliant value for money plus real flames look so good and the dog loves it too I cant shift her from in front of it.

Stove Expert Replied: 24 hour heat for the amounts quoted is amazing as we have had a really cold winter. Good value all round.

Great value , contemporary styled enamel stove

First up , I will be totally honest and advise I actually supply stoves to the UK market from a couple of brands , including Carron. HOWEVER before you hound me off the site, I have actually installed one of the latest Carron 7.3kw rated stoves into my own home with this insider knowledge. I have a black enamelled version installed to heat a 5m2 double height room in my old Grade 2 listed Victorian School conversion that has solid walls , single glazing and a draughty front door. The stove heats it well and the missus even heats her coffee cafetiere on the top while working in the room as an upholsterer during the day. I have always thought of the Carron as the Ford Mondeo of stoves , you get a lot of value for your money , solid brick lined construction ( a must in my book and beware of the cheaper stoves without ), nice contemporary styling and a decent range of colours , so a departure from the old Ford legend 'any colour as long as its black!' The cream colour , not advised in the spec above , is VERY popular and the 7.3kw actually has a flue at top and rear now to give it even more flexibility. The smaller 4.7kw stove has all the colours but only a top flue option which might be where the confusion has come from.

Stove Expert Replied: The proof is in the pudding in this instance!

terrific Little Stove

We bought this 12 months ago and we've never looked back! We use very little coal to light but that will keep burning good size logs all day and if you use a good coal like New Flame, the fire will stay in all night! This fire actually heats our entire bungalow and since installing it, we've only used our central heating on a couple of occasions!! This fire is an absolute revalation and we wouldn't be without it!

Would highly recommend it to anyone!

Carron 4.7 Cream Enamel Stove

Looks Great! Very small firebox so means we have to use well spilt logs or only 1 or 1 large ones. Have to work up in log size before a large one can be put on as a bit hard to keep going. Handle keeps falling off just needs tightening i think. Handle gets very hot. Glass was keeping very clen indeed but a piece of paper has just burnt against it and has not permanently discoloured it. Heard glass creraking noises, which got me worried. Doesnt fill the room with heat but that could be because ours is well inset into a raised hole in the wall hearth. All round a lovely little stove.Dont know about keepiing it in all night yet but I exect its highly unlikely due to its size. :)

Red Carron Stove

This is a lovely stove and very good value - it kind of contemporary but with the bulk of a proper stove, throws out lots of heat and the glass stays clean with seasoned wood. I looked everywhere for a review before buying but with no luck so took a chance, I am not dissapointed. Could not rate the burning overnight as we have not tried it.
