Review of Burley Brampton 9108 stove

Disapointing Can't recommend

Purchased the Burley Brampton 3 years ago, Oct 2012, after much research and reading available reviews of that time.

The stove lights easily and keeps not only our lounge wonderfully warm but the whole house just warm enough without the central heating on, but, possibly any log burner with same KW output would do the same.

However I am extremely disappointed, I will be getting a new stove and it won't be a Burley, it's fallen so very far short of promotional literature and expectations, some of the issues with my fire are as follows.

1. Door handle comes loose every now and again.

2. The lug on the side of the stove the handle fixes to in order to close also came loose, unscrewing itself a little each time the door was opened and closed, This problem required the lug to be screwed back in when the fire was on, otherwise the door wouldn't close properly, this was difficult, fiddly and risked a burn. Constantly having to do this has damaged or stripped the thread.

In order to rectify this problem the thread will need re-tapping and a new lug made on a lathe.

3. The air wash doesn't work, within a couple of hours of lighting the glass is white, covered in a very fine ash residue, after 4 hours it is impossible to see the flames. Overtime this ash deposit has caused damaged to the glass making it permanently opaque, unpleasant to watch and have on display in the lounge.

4. the fire does not burn correctly within the firebox , it burns to one side, the fire to the left as you look at the stove can be glowing hot but the fire to the far right almost out, just a smoulder.

5. The bottom air vent control is stiff and hard to move.

6. Does not burn fuel as efficiently as expected as ash needs emptying every couple of days, sometimes instead of fine ash there is wood that has not burnt away.

I have tried many different things to get better results, air intake, ways of loading timber etc, but all to no avail, I always burn really dry, seasoned 2 year old timber.

Burley are aware of the problem of ash deposits on the glass and confirmed they are watching this and that it does cause damage to the glass. I find Burley polite but that's as far as it goes concerning the problems being experienced.

From reading more recent reviews it seems others have experienced the same problems as me, including the one sided fire and particularly the obscure glass. So after 3 winters of irritation I'm installing a different stove.
